Dental bridges are a great way to replace missing teeth. Bridges can be made from gold, metal, alloys, or porcelain to ensure that they are strong and durable.

A dental bridge is connected on either side to natural teeth, suspending a false tooth (or teeth) in between. The existing teeth are recontoured to provide anchors for the bridge. After the recontouring a mold is taken of the area to send to a dental lab. The lab uses the mold to create your bridge for a proper fit and natural look.

While your bridge is being made at the lab, you will wear a temporary bridge to protect the natural teeth that have been reshaped and also protect the gum areas and look more appealing than having a missing tooth. When the permanent bridge has been created, you will have another appointment to seat the bridge. A dental cement will permanently secure the bridge in place at that appointment.  A bridge is not removable; it is fixed in place.

After a few days of wearing your bridge, it should feel like you have your own teeth back again. You should eat soft foods for the first few days after having your bridge placed. After the initial phase, you will be able to eat whatever you want with no issues.

If you are missing a tooth you should strongly consider having it replaced. Besides the aesthetic disadvantage of missing a tooth, it could also cause structural changes to your mouth and jaw, such as shifting of teeth and a change in your bite, as well as making it difficult to eat or speak properly. Set up an appointment today to restore your smile.
